Senior Retreat Photos

This was my biggest photography assignment, and since it was an event exclusive to seniors, I was the only photographer there. I took photos for both the newspaper and yearbook, and by the end of the night I was running around to all the different friend groups taking pictures for them. This was also one of my prime examples of being a good student journalist. I balanced enjoying my retreat as a student with taking photos as a journalist.

Sports: Ultimate Frisbee and Basketball

Last spring, I picked up an ultimate frisbee assignment, not expecting much to happen. What I got was an impressive array of photos combined with a great environment to be in. I never expected that my first sports photography assignment would turn out like this, so that was a pleasant surprise. My other sports photography experience is from boys' basketball, when my brother and I tag-teamed two photography assignments at the same game. Below are my favorite pictures from both experiences.

Other Photography Highlights

This was an early article of mine where I reviewed a pizza place with my friends. I took plenty of pictures, but this one was the best based on the toppings on the pizza, which made it look incredibly appetizing.

Our football team has won one game over the past two years, and things got so bad that at senior night, I was assigned to take a crowd photo. However, the crowd was much too small to take a good quality picture, so I took a picture of the very sparse crowd, but we haven’t been able to use it yet. I also started to take pictures of the team on the bench, since I had an excellent view of their reactions to every play. As the regular season came to a close and the team was losing again, I got this photo showing the sadness and frustration of some of the players on the sideline.

This was another one where I took an assignment late and the perfect photo opportunity fell into my lap. When Blake tried to implement an objective-based grading system, my physics teacher was leading the charge. Our editor asked for a better quality photo on the front, so I assumed it would just have to be a different one of her teaching students. However, as luck would have it, our class was going over a test that day and that changed the grading scale for the class, so I was able to take a photo of my teacher, the leader of the school’s objective-based grading process, talking about objective-based grading.
