Reporting and Broadcasting

Reporting

As a reporter for The Daily Northwestern, I've written articles for a variety of desks, from Sports to Gameday (football) to Campus, but each of them had one thing in common: My passion for storytelling.

NEWS: CAAN Press Conference

This co-byline with Taariq Ahmed and Hannah Webster was written following Northwestern University's deal with the Trump administration to regain its federal funding. The Coalition Against Antisemitism at Northwestern held a press conference, and Taariq and I went and reported on it before writing the article with Hannah.

NEWS: Mark Krikorian Speaker

Taariq Ahmed and I were sent to cover the controversial appearance of Mark Krikorian on campus. The article took us a few days to publish due to some of Krikorian's comments, but Taariq and I persevered and ensured that The Daily's recap of the event properly depicted his comments.

NEWS: Donors Reflect on Influence, Reasons for Giving

I worked with fellow reporter Eliza Goldwasser to source and interview donors about the impact of their donations. Despite our early difficulties sourcing, we utilized our networks to produce the final product.

SPORTS: Soccer Recaps

The first sport I covered for The Daily Northwestern was soccer. I wrote four game recaps about the men's and women's soccer teams' conference matchups throughout the fall, including this one about the men's soccer team drawing Michigan State 0-0.

GAMEDAY: Braun Press Conference

I attended David Braun's weekly press conference on Monday, Nov. 24, and summarized three key takeaways from his availability.

GAMEDAY: Students React to Wrigley Field

My first assignment for the Gameday desk was an article where I interviewed students about their experience at Wrigley Field during Northwestern's Wrigley Field Series game against Michigan.

SPORTS: Rapid Recaps

Rapid recaps are articles that are published at the buzzer of basketball and football games, so the articles are written throughout the game. Two of my standout recaps can be found below: Men's Basketball vs. South Carolina, where the Wildcats nearly blew a lead in the final minute, and Women's Basketball vs. Missouri, where I got to show off some creativity. Read that here.

SPORTS: Tennis Recap

Another sport I began to cover was tennis, where I had the opportunity to write a recap of what first appeared to be a typical weekend for the tennis team. However, a few injuries added some late twists that included a match between the two Northwestern teams, where one player partnered with someone from Notre Dame.

Broadcasting

In addition to reporting, I've begun my foray into broadcasting. I've taken both on-air and behind-the-scenes assignments for NNN Sports' flagship show Sportsnight, WNUR Sports, and The Daily Northwestern.

Anchor for Wildcat Gameday Preview

I had the honor of anchoring Sportsnight's football pre-show alongside Ryan Boublik. The two of us recapped Northwestern's football win over Penn State before previewing the team's next game against Purdue. We produced our own script for the show.

Color Commentary vs. Ohio State

I was the color commentator for WNUR Sports's broadcast of Northwestern Women's Basketball's conference-opening loss against Ohio State University on Dec. 7. Play-by-play man Charlie Jacobs and I watched hours of film in advance of the broadcast.
